Claudio Prieto (1934-2015) was a Spanish composer and pianist known for his distinctive style of contemporary classical music. He began his musical training in Madrid and continued his studies in Paris where he befriended composers such as Pierre Boulez and Olivier Messiaen. His works were often experimental and incorporated unconventional musical elements, such as electronic music and aleatoric techniques. Prieto's compositions were performed by leading orchestras and ensembles around the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic. He also taught at the Madrid Royal Conservatory and was a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. Prieto's awards included the National Prize for Music and the Gold Medal for Fine Arts.
